Dutch Hill Spelling Bee

We are excited to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee again this year!

Students may now sign up for the spelling bee HERE! 

Here is an overview of how we will conduct our spelling program this year. We’ll be in communication as more details become available.

• The grade-level bees will take place on November 8 during the school day. These written bees will test your student on the words in the grade-level list. The top speller(s) (there may be multiples from each grade if there are ties for top speller) will advance to the School Spelling Bee in January!

• The winners of the grade-level written bees will study the 450-word lists.

• A mock oral spelling bee for the grade-level winners will be held on in early January during school to familiarize students with the format of an oral spelling bee. This will give students a chance to learn the rules, run through the setup of the spelling bee, and get them comfortable standing up in front of people. There will be no actual competition/winners for this – we’ll use One Bee words as it’s just a time to run through and ensure that each participant clearly understands the rules and format of the school spelling bee.

• The school spelling bee will be held on Thursday, January 25 in the evening. This event will be open for families of all Dutch Hill students and staff to spectate. The winner will advance to the state spelling bee. That student will compete in Seattle for the chance to advance to the national spelling bee!
